Recently, I went through a horrible experience while shifting our glass dining table. My husband and I embarked on the journey to move our glass dining table by ourselves (well I should mention my husband warned against it). I was convinced it is going to be a productive one. I was so hell-bent on participating in the shifting services and completely shattered the table. Literally!
We carried it down the stairs, in the middle of the stairways, my arms gave-up. Not well prepared for the move, I had to rest for a few seconds. Before I could place my end of the table on the ground, my hands slipped, and in no time there lied a heap of glass sand. Fortunately, we didn’t have any major cuts, but we could have easily. That is why it’s highly recommended to have professional packers and movers pack the bigger fragile items. In case you decided on tackling the job on your own, be extremely cautious.
Here are a few tips to help you pack fragile items to avoid disastrous damages.
Sorting.
Sort out delicate things that require extra care. For instance, Glassware, fine china, glass tabletops, mirrors, musical instruments, artworks, antique clock, heavy electronics are a few to name. Make sure the electronics are packed in their original boxes and pac king materials. Don’t worry if you haven’t preserved the original boxes. Ask the packers and movers to drop some boxes, or you can always buy new boxes. Packing these fragile items requires a lot of care, hence it is going to take a longer time.
Packing.
Fragile packing is all about cushioning. Thicker cardboard boxes will absorb shocks caused by sudden changes. Lining the bottom of the boxes with a layer of bubble wraps, or clothes, or sponges will give extra cushion and reduce loose spaces. Wrap the fragile items with soft clothes. While packing things with a hollowed space, make sure to fill the hollow space with socks, or newsprints, etc. Avail of Boxigo’s service of packing materials and real-time advice. Our top packers and movers will be happy to assist you to pack.
Moving.
It’s a good practice to label the boxes “Fragile” so that the house packers and movers will handle it with extra care. Load the fragile boxes at the end, and make sure there aren’t any other boxes loaded over it. Boxigo’s years of experience moving fragile items will be a valuable resource during your relocation.
